Spent more time with Big Jeffer today. Had lunch at East Side Mario’s… which wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. (I’ve had some awful service and meals there… and ESMs was NOT my choice) Afterwards we got together for some road hockey, which was great… Lots of fun. Running, chasing, clearly I need to it more often as I was exhausted afterwards. B. and I returned to Brampton and are taking it easy for the rest of the night.
Well… good bye to another year. This has been a year of change for me. Leaving a long relationship, starting another… being amazed at how different things can be in a relationship. Smiling once again. I’m looking forward to 2004. Mostly because of B., if my job situation was certain I would have no reservations for the immediate future… Regardless, I’m optimistic that 2004 will bring great experiences and adventures, and certainly some wonderful times. This past year has really felt like a dream. At times I expect to wake up and be in the same old same old situation I was in before. Everything seems so fundamentally different and more my speed now that it is hard to wonder why it took so long to manifest itself into action. But there is no sense in dwelling in the past. Things have moved on… and I could not be happier that they have. Anyways, have a safe and happy 2004.
This evening will be yummy Salha Thai and comedy.

Last evening I met up with an old friend and neighbour of mine that I don’t get to see often since he lives in Australia. It was great catching up, having a few beer and getting silly. It is good to see he and some other friends have not changed that much… Might meet up with him later today for lunch.
Canadian junior’s face their first real test tomorrow!
I finally saw LOTR:RotK last night. Yes it is a wonderful film, full of action, great acting, wonderful sets etc. etc. In spite of that I still felt a little empty at the end of it… as I’m sure many who have read the books also feel. I don’t want to rag on Jackson too much (grin) because he has created an incredible film, but some of the omissions and alternations (for brevity or whatever) I still thought were curious and sometimes disappointing. I’m sure the Extended version of RotK may address much of this but – who knows. Anyways… some of the things (not all of which I noticed…):
-Elrond tent scene – never happened
-Frodo never abandoned Sam in the book
-the return to an unoccupied Shire
-Denethor’s dramatic leap off of Minas Tirith
And the omissions:
-The Voice of Saruman
-Sam and Frodo at the Crossroads
-The Mouth of Sauron
-The Houses of Healing
Ya.. obviously it can’t all be included but the worst omission (IMHO) was how Saruman just disappeared. He is locked in the tower guarded by the Treebeard. Ok. Off we go… The whole confrontation with Gandalf was omitted. I found this very disappointing. Anyways… it *was* a great film. And I’m picking at some little things. I like wizards and magic… it would have been nice to see it more represented in the film. I still hope it does well at the Oscars. Fantasy films never get their due at the Oscars… hopefully this year will be different.
So I don’t forget… My sibling made me run all over the house gathering clues for my Christmas gift. She is evil. I’m paying all takers to get her name next year. (The gifts were worth it though. Very thoughtful stuff.)
Well… after a bit of waiting… five of us gathered for a game of A&A (Axis and Allies). It has been awhile since many of us played… Nevertheless… it was a lot of fun. Chris brought a beer from each of the nations in the game (Russia, Japan, UK, USA and Germany – see pic – the Russian beer was actually quite good!). It was an up and down game… The Axis did prevail though. 🙁 In part perhaps to a rule that we weren’t certain of. To clarify:
A question. Was just playing A&A… and we had some debate whether the following is legal. Can troops move through a newly captured territory to attack another territory from the newly captured territory in the same round?

Reply Re: A question.
“Armor can blitz through empty enemy territories to attack a second territory. Air can fly over territories on the way to an attack. Other than that, the answer to your question is “no.” All combat movement is simultaneous, and all combats must be declared prior to rolling the dice for the first combat.”
It is a funny game. Tons of pieces lots of planning and usually you can see the tide turn on one move or one roll. Such as Sean rolling three 1s. (The odds of which I figure are 1:216 or higher) Regardless… we shall play again someday.
Thanks to B. for helping out and letting me play some game.

1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year?
Ridding myself of nearly all my debt. 😀
2. What was your biggest disappointment?
It is disappointing that full time work didn’t materialize at Brock in spite of suggestions that it would be likely to happen.
3. What do you hope the new year brings?
A good stable job. More good times with B..
4. Will you be making any New Year’s resolutions? If yes, what will they be?
No. I wouldn’t follow them anyways.
5. What are your plans for New Year’s Eve?
Well…! B. has a night of comedy in store for us!
Whoa…. I’ve been treated to a wonderful day of eating! Both B. and her sister (and her husband) fed me WELL today! Donuts, pork, back bacon, chocolate, potatoes, popcorn, phew. Uh uh uh! B. made a delicious pork tenderloin and dinner was fortunately uneventful.
B. had a bunch of thoughtful gifts… which VERY pleasantly surprised me. Surprised due to the thought and consideration that went into it. Thanks hon. 🙂
Well… after returning home I found my linux box had died due to Hard drive corruption. Fujitsu drives suck ass. This is the second short term death of one.
Went to the Sabres v. Ottawa last night with family and friends. Good time. The Sabres finally played a decent game. 2-2 tie. (At least they end the LOSING STREAK)
My father is home. He seems *ok*. Coughing and such but happier to be home for sure.
Well it was disturbing to find out that my Dad was hospitalized Sunday with some sort of respiratory issues. It seems it could anything from the Flu to a blood clot… ‘they are running tests…’ Sadly tonight was going to be the ‘family night out’… we were going to see the Sabres lose to the Sens. I think my mother has decided to go… so, I think we may salvage the night. I’d like to see my father, but I’m sure he needs rest, and I’m still getting over a cold so… I figure it isn’t too wise at this time… and he could (should?) be released with 48 hours… (depending on the findings of course) at least the hospital is waiting until they know what the problem is before tossing him out on the street.
Just talked to Anne at Brock… it seems January is going to be busy. They want to squeeze my brain dry before my contract ends it seems. Which is fine. It is sad there isn’t funds to keep me on… it is clear they need my sKiLLZ.
