I hate commuting in the GTA. It sucks. Stop go… Stop go.. yup fun. The reason this is such a chore is because people don’t seem to want to cooperate. They don’t pay attention, they aren’t courteous and they only see themselves on the road. I try to be decent. I let people in most of the time. Recently however I’ve noticed something that irked me. (I hear something on a local radio station complaining of the same thing) I’ve always thought when someone is decent enough to stop and and let you in you should give them a little wave of thank you. Well… I let in four people yesterday, zero waved. So I figured I’d post these numbers to see how many people actually do wave. Wow. And I thought it was Christmas. Pshaw.
Have you seen this video? Someone crafted a wonderful sequence of lighting to Wizards of Winter by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Great stuff. Merry Christmas.
I don’t normally post a lot of gratuitous photos of over photographed actresses but… Wow… Charlize with black hair. Exception time. The photo is not from a dream but her new movie Aeon Flux. Check out the impressive website for the film.
We went up to my sister’s in Collingwood for my birthday. They have been renovating their home. It is really starting to look impressive, great job! My mother made me two cakes! An ice cake and a Skor cake. Ironically… I said ice cream cake so she could just buy one and not have to do anything. (Yes she made the ice cream cake too…) Thanks Mom, I enjoyed both. We got chinese take-out which was quite good. Chatted a bit with my brother-in-law, which I don’t get to do often. It is great to have a stand up guy as an in-law, considering all the idiots out there. My gf got me slippers that I’ve been asking for. They are great, warm feet are happy feet. From her and my family I got a ticket to see the Sabres v. Penguins with my Dad! A great idea, and I look forward to the afternoon out with my father. Surprisingly no geeky stuff. I guess I’ve bought quite a bit of it for myself over the past few months.
Sunday started with some yummy B. waffles. We eventually got out for a little Christmas shopping. It is already getting nuts. Why does shopping for Christmas put people in anything but the Christmas spirit? Meh. Seeing that the x-mas tree has been my colours the past two years, this year B. picked the colours. Our tree will be red/burgundy and Gold.
Wow. This story is sad in so many ways (and isn’t isolated either). In a nutshell a girl died from playing World of Warcraft without rest for several days. Eventually her body simply collapsed from exhaustion. I’m a gamer and I’ve been kept up for hours going for ‘one more level’ or ‘playing one more life’ but C’MON dying from fatigue! Where the hell are this girl’s parents? I’m amazed that Blizzard the makers of the game have no mention (that I could find) of this anywhere on their site. So much for corporate responsibility. Sigh.
Pretty quiet weekend. We did a fair bit of household stuff. It never seems to end. Four bags of stuff for Goodwill and counting. Played a crazy amount of Farcry yesterday. Wow, it looks stunning. I think I blogged about this game before. It is understandable, it is postcard good.
HA. Link of the day. In related news I work in IT. 😉
Have you been following the Sony CD PR nightmare? I couldn’t believe it when I heard it. In a nutshell Sony included a program on their audio CDs that loaded *without user knowledge* and blocked any attempts to copy the data. Apparently the program could be exploited to allow viruses and all sorts of crap in. How arrogant of Sony. Ironically I was just warming to the idea of getting a Sony PS3…Now I wonder if supporting such a company is what I want to do. Sigh. Sony admitted they were wrong and will be replacing all the CDs. Burn Sony, you deserve it.
Ha… another F you to Sony as the state of Texas is sueing them! Don’t mess with Texas…Various sites are predicting that Sony’s console dominance is also in jeopardy. With the 360 coming out just in time for Christmas, the 360 is predicted to do well. Not sure how excited I’m about more M$ monopoly. I guess one evil empire or the other….
I decided it would be a good idea if I got some exercise. My buddy nIVEK and I played ball hockey before in a pick-up game last year, it was a lot of fun, but a few bad apples spoiled the bunch. Awhile ago he found a new group to play with and I went for the first time Wednesday night. It was a lot of fun. The game organizer (and ref!) is a fair guy and creates a good environment to play in. Well he tries, there are still a few over zealous guys who think the Stanley Cup is on the line. (Guys it isn’t awarded at the end of the night… I swear!)
nIVEK lives about 30 minutes away. I usually take the backroads to his place. I’ve only been there a few times. Enough times to *think* I know where I’m going. Well after the game I was tired and really just wanted to get home I figured I remembered the way home. Well. I didn’t and I ended up a good distance from home in a fairly rural area. Oh. Did I mention my gas tank was on E? I’ve never run out of gas in this car (and at nearly 155,000km it has been everywhere…) but it was starting to look like it was going to happen. I was a little freaked. I was tired. I really had no idea where I was. No gas, no real clue where I could get gas. GAH! Oddly the maps I had ended before covering the area I was in as well. Fortunately the gas (or fumes) held up long enough for me to find a station. I willingly paid close to $.90 to fill ‘er up. I slept well that night.
Wow. I ordered my video card two days ago and it already arrived yesterday morning. Wheee! It is great to play games the way they were intended to be played. The PCI-E card is enormous, waaaay bigger than I expected. As well… it needs its own power supply. Good grief! Holy frame rates though batman. Gaming goodness.
I decided last night to finally pay off my line of credit. Balance $0. I can’t remember the last time I saw that. Years for sure. So I hope to save a little more since B. thinks I’m not getting enough taken off my paycheques. Eek!
Gilmour Girls sucks. It is the most worthless, insulting, drivel on the tube. I can’t understand how women can mock men watching sports when they watch crap like that. (Yes, I’m generalizing that only someone with an extra X chromosome could tolerate that ‘show’. Show me a man who willingly watches it without duress). Why! why! why! gah! stupid! stupid!
Whoa. I’ve been watching the Anime series Berserk for several weeks off and on. (This may contain Berserk spoilers!) It is 25 episodes and I reached the end of the series tonight. The series centers around a few characters. The main character is a sword welding strongman named Guts. Guts wanders around looking for a purpose in life (beyond swinging his massive sword) and comes across The Band of the Hawk, a mercenary band of warriors. The Band of the Hawk is led by Griffith, a valiant, uber swordsman with a clear desire on ruling a kingdom at any cost. The lone female in the Band of the Hawk named Caska, eventually wins Guts dark heart but too late it seems. Getting there however was fairly intriguing.
The animation was pretty decent. I’m sure there are nicer looking Anime series out there. But the dark, grainy nature of the animation seemed to suit the morbid themes in Berserk quite well. I liked the single stills used throughout the series during the more dramatic moments.
I loved the intro sequence and the intro music and I have done a bit of digging to find ‘Tell me Why’ by the Penpals. The English voice talent in the series was quite good.
And then there was the ending… The ending was really bizarre, like WTF drugs was the storywriter on? It was rather unsatisfying as well. Not that I always want a nice Disney ending, far from it… but the final two episodes seemed so disconnected from the rest of the series, I can’t help but sigh. Sure demons were referenced occasionally during the series but not to the extent that they belonged so prominently in the ending. And certainly not to be the ending. ‘In this world the destiny of mankind is controlled by some transcendental entity or law. Like the hand of God hovering above. At least man knows that he has no control over his own will…’ Indeed, his will to write a decent ending.
In spite of the ghoulishly bizarre ending I enjoyed the series a lot. Yes, there was a lot of blood splatter and over the top violence (apparently the Manga comic book series was much more graphic in nature ~ phew~ !) but there was also some great adventure, humour and interesting storylines (with the exception of the LSD/Too Dark Park ending).
This was the first major Anime series I’ve watched and it won’t be the last. This is an interesting genre of animation and I expect to find some hit and misses as explore through it. Overall I’d say this was a hit. The episodes from about 3-23 were solid and very entertaining. Kudos.
Friday was a pretty quiet night. I watched the Sabres/ Leafs game. It is especially nice to beat the Leafs. I take a lot of grief being a Sabres’ fan in the GTA. I ordered my video card as well. Can’t wait for this bad boy to arrive. Zippy gaming goodness! Saturday we went up to B.’s sister’s cottage outside of Barrie. We primarily went up to bring home B’s kayak. The weather was nice though, so we got in a few walks.
Sunday was a slow drive home. We stopped in Barrie and both bought shoes. (since the clerk at The Running Room was so good… it is soooo rare these days to get such good service…). Sunday night was pretty lazy. B. made some yummy cookies. I watched Four Brother’s which I downloaded ages ago. It wasn’t bad. Marky Mark getting all hostile yo!
Congrats to my co-worker Adam who got engaged this weekend.
