The weekend. Hmm. Pretty lazy actually… Spent a fair bit of time coding this weekend: A side flash project and recoding the blog comment form (which should be fixed by later tonight) for unsung. Spent Sunday evening at B.’s sisters. Fun as usual. Her brother-in-law has a slot car set so ‘the men’ spent the evening racing ‘downstairs’. Saturday B. and I watched The Upside of Anger which I was expecting to be dreadful. In fact, was pretty fun. Costner wasn’t very Costner – a good thing. I thought it was a decent story told realistically.
So the Olympics are over. Canada (thanks largely in part to Cindy Klassen) did really well in the world rankings for medals. Not bad for a country of just over 32 million. It looks like 2010 will be decent as we have many rookies that should hit their prime. Impressive also this year were the numerous 4th and 5th place finishes. Still, for me, Men’s hockey is the focal point… and with their disappointing performance I hope some serious changes are made. Losing in Italy in the first round is one thing… losing in Vancouver in the first round would be unforgivable…
I’m as close as I’m likely to get to being an uncle. My sister, who isn’t having kids, got a puppy last night. She got a weimaraner. The breed is similar breed to my dog, a vizsla, except they are gray. I hope she (and my B.I.L.) have fun with their new addition. I look forward to meeting my niece!
Nivek arranged to see the Toronto Rock last night with a bunch of Brock Alumni. I’ve never been to a lacrosse match. We had a private ‘skybox’ at the ACC, that was pretty sweet. I have to say it was very entertaining. I didn’t always understand the rules and what was going on… lacrosse appears to combine gameplay from basketball and hockey… that aside it was a lot fun. The Rock were up 3, then down 2 with just over a minute left… they tie it up! Then win in OT! Unreal. I met a few Brock grads and caught up with some old friends. Good times. I’d certainly see the Rock and join the Brock grads again.
And for a change I didn’t get raped by parking downtown. Last time I went downtown they changed $20! to park for a few hours… last night half as much at $10. While in most cases that is still a lot… I didn’t feel my ass burn as much paying $10. I don’t know why that bugs me so much… I guess because the parking lots changing $20 are milking and abusing their locations.
I’ve played A LOT of games. Shooters, RPGs, Action etc. etc… but gawd! the first time I’ve actually had my hair stand on end was while playing FEAR. What an insane, twisted little game. Seems like ‘just another shooter’ but the flashbacks and dream sequences are closer to Stephen King and true horror than anything I’ve seen in a game. Intense… hopefully I can sleep now…
Sigh… I’m sure many Canadians watched this afternoon’s game completely aghast. Last year gold, this year garbage. No longer is Canada the automatic favourite for Gold, and may never be again. The Europeans have clearly arrived. I wasn’t impressed with any of the games the Men played. The effort was sporadic, we seemed tired and were outplayed (and beaten) by hungrier teams. The lack of offense, scoring opportunities and shots on goal generated by Team Canada was very disappointing. So Canada comes home empty handed. Hopefully this will wake up Gretzky’s crew… clearly something is amiss here. Sigh…and what hurts most is that show boat dog Ovechkin scored the winning goal. Double sigh.
On the bright side, Cindy Klassen’s performance has been amazing! Four medals so far with potential for more?! Phew. The Canadian women are representing!
Final days on the first part of the project at work… it has been long indeed… I think the end product is very good. Starting phase two tomorrow… management has alloted just under two weeks to do it. HA!… I think that is wishful thinking. Hopefully they are right. Hopefully they are right without more all-nighters. Sigh…
Well the Men’s Hockey team barely hung on today against the Czechs. If the game was longer they surely would have lost. They better show up for 60 minutes v. the Russians tomorrow or they come home empty handed…
Well the Canadian Women’s Hockey team looked impressive getting to the gold medal game today after winning all their previous games. Today was another gutsy well fought TEAM win. A win for GOLD! Not against the must hyped Americans but against another gutsy team, the Swedes. No longer is the race for women’s gold a two team race! Hopefully the Men’s team watched the women play, apparently they have a lot to learn, and have very little time to do it. I’m not sure what will happen to the Men’s team but if can’t play like a team, then they will lose. Maybe they won’t place at all… Phew… shocking.
Spent today in Collingwood snowshoeing with my Sister, Brother in law, B. and of course Tanga. It was pretty fun. Fun until a muscle in my upper leg started acting all weird. It was pretty uncomfortable. Meh. It was a good walk. There was an amazing amount of snow of there… The banks were 4-6 feet in some areas. We had a yummy dinner then chilled out to some Olympic coverage.
What a disappointing loss today for the Men’s Hockey team. Outplayed by the Swiss?! Who knew. The boys had better wake up tomorrow against the Fins or it will be the same result. Hopefully today’s loss will get their attention, seeing Canada has never lost to the powerhouse Swiss.
well i’m at work after an ‘all-nighter’ trying to complete one of our projects. I’ve been up for close to 30 hours. zzzz….ouch.
