Did a little upgrade this morning on unsung. The banner is now *Flash*… Oooooo…. It fades from banner to banner, no big whoop, just thought it was a little nicer. Spent most of last night recoding another flash project… I’m pretty happy with it now. It did take a little longer than I expected however…it will be a few extra bucks anyway. The dog is back to being frisky and insane. That didn’t take long.
Today is the official ‘changing of the jacket’ day. When the winter jacket was replaced with the spring jacket. In doing so I realized I really need a new spring jacket. Heh. The next season is always welcome when it arrives. Hello Spring. Work has mercifully slowed a bit… I wonder for how long? They laid off someone yesterday, I guess a few of us saw it coming. He was a little greener than was necessary for the position. I’m sure he’ll excel elsewhere, maybe he’ll be back, he was pretty young.
The dog seemed a little better this morning, she still is mostly immobile (she can walk, just doesn’t)…
Ugh. Well puppy came home last night after her surgery. The scar is rather Frankensteiny and much more gruesome that I (or B.) was expecting. Tanga seems to be in some discomfort and is rather immobile. I’m not sure if she is milking the attention or really feeling that bad, I just hope she recovers quickly. It is a pretty sad sight to see an idle puppy. Sigh…
Tanga when under the knife today…she is out of surgery and is fine. Phew! The doc only removed one lump, he felt the other was smaller than it was last week so he left it (hoping it will heal on its own).
Spent most of Sunday in Guelph with Tanga’s litter mates (and their owners :P). We did some bird training (pointing, retrieving)… the dogs did pretty well. I spent a good chunk of the day freeing a pigeon from a tree. We attached a small piece of cardboard on a string to the bird’s leg… it was able to fly high enough to get tangled in a tree. Gah. It was a pretty pathetic sight. So after chucking maybe 100 rocks at the cardboard (not the bird :P) it was out of the tree. It was in good shape surprisingly. We had another afternoon at Suzanne and Kevin’s full of chat, dogs and great food. Suzanne made Roast. Yum! In the evening after a brief visit by my B.I.L., we watched the last episode of Prison Break. Seems like Link is doomed. If not it will be a pretty inventive ending…
Talked briefly to my ex today. It sounds like she isn’t doing so well right now. I hope her situation improves it is sad to hear her having personal problems. It is curious to worry about an ex.
No. It isn’t what you’re thinking. Bethesda has released Elder Scrolls IV – Oblivion. The previous game in this PC RPG series was called Morrowind. I thought Morrowind was OK… so I thought I’d at least take a look at Oblivion. I’ve finished a few quests and got my character to level 2.. which seemed to take ages.
-As I’m sure you’ll read over and over in reviews, the game is beautifully rendered (esp. with a decent video card… on my 6800GS the world is very impressive) the landscapes, towns and environments are the best I’ve seen in a video game.
-The devs added a compass that points in the direction of your current quest… very handy!
-High level of detail available during character creation
-still lots of choice in character creation
-so far the story has been clear and easy to follow – wow!
-Many of the NPCs still look pretty bad. The effort doesn’t seem to have been taken here. -Having to constantly go in and out of all the menus to change things – gah
-stupid process involved to *drop* an item and why can’t I drop it anywhere… the game should figure that out, I shouldn’t have to move to accomidate placed items
-The game allows only 10 quick keys… so many spells, various weapon configurations, potions, etc. all need to fit there somehow…?!
-I’ve been able to get stuck in situations I can’t *move* out of, forcing me to restart the game
-map is a pain in the ass to use. something onscreen and slightly opache would be much more useful
-Can you say crash to desktop? The game has crashed about five times during various parts of the game. Hopefully this will be addressed in a patch!
I may update this as I get deeper into the game. Oblivion is well worth checking out if you’re a RPG fan.
Busy day around the house, up and down the stairs with laundry etc.. After walking the dog settled in and watched ‘way too much’ Prison break. Back to the grind tomorrow… Ho-hum. Still feel pretty tired… the time off really wasn’t that relaxing, in spite of sleeping in.
We decided to get a second (or is it third or fourth??) opinion on a skin reaction on Tanga’s upper back leg. The reaction has killed the fur about twice the size of a loonie around it. So… we took the dog yesterday to get our breeder’s co-breeder’s vet’s (! haha) take on it. He said if he has seen it sooner a different course of action could have been taken. As is he recommended removing it. So… Tanga goes under the knife next Monday. It is minor surgery but anytime a dog is under anesthesia anything can happen. I’m not sure how this will impact her ‘show ability’ but if it in any way can prevent health issues in the future, I figure it has to be done.
Since we were in Guelph we called Suzanne and Kevin for a dog walk. (They own Tanga’s brother Cairo) We had a nice walk around Guelph Lake. They graciously invited us over for dinner. Dinner was yum and ended with a delicious apple crisp, ice cream and whipping cream… Did they ever expect us to leave?? The dogs had fun abusing each other the whole time as usual. A fun night, we talked a lot. I think most of the boundary walls have crashed down now as no topic was untouched. Things were pretty open. Heh…
Whoa, did the Sabres ever stink it up last night. 5-0? Power ranking will drop down after that sad display.
After being cooped up for the better part of the last two weeks at work it was nice to get outside yesterday. It was another ‘dog’ day. We drove to Guelph to meet some of Tanga’s littermates. My sister and BIL brought their new puppy Wiley along as well. We walked for about two hours. It was clear and sunny but hardly warm. The wind was nasty cold. We went back to Suzanne and Kevin’s (one of the dog owner’s home’s who live in Guelph) and sat around and talked for awhile. The whole time the dogs played: chasing, running, biting, wrestling, tugging, following, climbing, etc.. Tanga slept well last night.
I was pretty disappointed with the Sabres’ effort last night against the Sens. I *thought* this was going to be a big game. Hopefully the lackadaisical, half-ass effort giving by some of the players can be eliminated before the playoffs start. I don’t mind losing to a better team. I mind losing due to mistakes, turn-overs and players playing without heart. In the big picture this in minor but it would have been nice to see an effort in line with playing the best team in the league.
Phew… The uber project at work is finally done. (Well – I hope it is – as far as I know it is done at least *for now…) It was a crazy few weeks. I think I logged close to 130 hours for the two weeks. *cough* I feel spent. I don’t go back in until next Thursday. I’m looking forward to being home. I feel alien here. I’m surprised the dog didn’t bark at me and that the cat didn’t run from me. A special thanks to B. for being understanding during this time. A lot of my co-workers caught a lot of grief from their spouses during this period. Who said game development was glamourous? It isn’t. Fun yes, a lot of insane hours yes. It was only possible with the great team I work with. I’m looking forward to seeing how our game is received. Regardless I think we did a great job all things considered. Now to sleep.
Bloody hell… and yet another all nighter at work. We are making *another* low end 64k version of the game. We started with out high end version at around 180k. So there was *a long way to go*… chopping stuff out of the game everywhere. Art out, text out, game levels out, code out… eventually it was like a different new game. So we are working away all night and at around 5:30AM *this morning* we get under 64k! At around 5:45AM this morning the wind storm outside the office building knocked the power out to the entire building. HAHA… It really was surreal… YA!!! Made it… *ZZzzzpp!* ….. *silence*
