B. forwarded an e-mail with planets in the solar system to me. Holy… that puts a lot of things into perspective doesn’t it?
It was a short week due to the holiday last Monday… It sure didn’t feel very short. My project at work isn’t going down without a fight. There have been a few more late nights and the dev team is wondering if this project will ever end. The lead coders are tired of fixing silly bugs from the client. Things that could have, and should have, been addressed weeks ago. There have been various problems as this was our first Brew project. I’m hoping to drop mobile development and move onto handheld and console development. It pays waaaay better per project and is much easier to define device limitations. Hopefully…
Ireland is looming over the horizon. We leave June 4th. It will be my first trip to Europe. Ireland sounds like it will be a lot of fun. There is tons of history, the island looks beautiful and we’ll have a local to steer us in the right direction as we adventure across the island.
This weekend disappeared in a hurry. We are trying to get the front walkway redone. It is a mess. We spent a chunk of Saturday running around looking at various stones that we could use. No solution yet. We are also looking at drapery but *of course* the only fabric we have found we like is rather expensive… Bah. Today we spent most of the day doing Vizsla stuff with some friends. We also got in a little shopping. Costco is evil.
A special congratulations to my buddy Pat who is now engaged to his long time girlfriend Jennifer. Life long and prosper.
Friday I said goodbye to one of my co-workers who is returning home to B.C.. I was sad to see him leave. We always got along well and I enjoyed working with him. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
That afternoon we closed work early and played splat ball. It was a lot of fun. It was suppose to be staff only but one co-worker brought a friend… who ended up complaining every game about something and even telling off the referee who told him he was the first person in 18 years to ever complain. Ho-hum. It was intense… everyone should play it at least once. It is better with people that are of equal skill.
Saturday we drove up to B.’s sister’s cottage. The weather was decent most of Friday and various chores around the cottage were completed.
The Sabres great year came to an anti-climatic ending vs. the Sens who won their second OT game. The series was close. Two OT games and, 2 games decided by 1 goal. I’m not sure if Sabres’ fans will consider this a great year for the team or not. The one team, one goal was obviously the Cup, but the way the team played in the playoffs I wonder if they forgot what the goal was after finishing first overall. Personally I’m disappointed. Not just because the Sabres lost, but because the effort to win wasn’t what I was expecting by all the players. Outside of the goaltender few players played with the consistent tenacity necessary to win the Cup. It is sad. How many chances do these players expect to make it to the conference finals and get a chance to play for the Cup? Isn’t that their highest goal as a player? It didn’t seem like it. I don’t know what next year will bring… There will inevitably be a ton of action during the Sabres’ post season. Who will stay in Buffalo. The question has been raised since the start of the year. Goodbye Drury? Briere? Vanek? Zubrus? Everyone will have to wait as see. I’m hoping the team gets a little more grit. I hope they get rid of Spacek. What an overpaid dud he turned out to be. Better luck next year? Originally I figured I’d go for whomever won in the Eastern Conference in the next round. But the thought of garbage like Neil, Corvo or Spezza raising the Cup is pretty repugnant. GO DUCKS? Meh. Go Toronto F.C.!
Well…the Sabres avoided the sweep. It is a start. Hopefully they build from here. They have to. Each game is still an elimination game. Nothing will get easier.
I was able to capture and edit the gfx for this post with Kubuntu. It may seem trivial, but being able to do commonplace things in windows in Kubuntu increases the likelihood of keeping it around as an OS. So far I’ve been very happy with my Feisty Fawn!
OTTAWA (AP) -The way Chris Drury sees it, the Buffalo Sabres have two choices after falling into a deep and desperate playoff hole against the Ottawa Senators.
‘We could curl up and cry about it and go home,’ the Sabres co-captain Chris Drury said Tuesday. ‘Or we could fight like dogs’.
The stats say it all.
15 shots on goal
Out hit 17-26
Where are the Sabres? Who are these heartless, shell-shocked zombies?
Went to the Jays game tonight with some co-workers. It was fun. Beer! WOW! $10 for a 20oz Keith’s in a plastic glass. Bend over please this is going to hurt. Jays won. Otherwise it was baseball. I remember why I only go to a game every five years. Zzz.
Hehe. Funny. One for guys.
Wow…pretty embarrassing game for the Sabres tonight. So many brutal turnovers. The Sabres were lucky going into the third tied. I hope this wakes them up. Special teams also sucked. The powerplay was dreadful… I don’t know what the Sabres mentality is on the powerplay but they should consider declined powerplays if they play like that… they have to win the one on one battles ON THE POWERPLAY as well as 5 on 5. Hoping for a more focused effort on Saturday. The Sens are good but I think beatable with a better effort. Emery didn’t have much to do in the third. That has to change. ARRRRR!
First off I wanted to say a belated Happy Birthday to my sister. It is odd being so far apart. This is the first birthday where we didn’t cut a cake together. Feels strange. I’ll go get a cake and eat one for you. 🙂
Sabres start round three tonight against the arch enemy the Sens. I’m expecting a very entertaining series. Go Sabres!
It is good to see the weather changing. I’m looking forward to doing more outside. Especially after getting e-mail from Ontario Parks. Hmm. I’ve been taking a B100 complex vitamin for about two months. It was suppose to boost my energy.. and I have to say I have noticed some improvement. Do I keep taking them once the bottle is done? Gah. I’d hate to have to make a doctor’s appointment just to ask if I should keep taking vitamins…
Well! FINALLY… after two years at my current employer I got a raise today. What is standard? I asked for a lot more. I ended up getting 6% for two years. Apparently some sort of defacto standard. Everyone was reviewed and we all seemed to get the same increase. Some of the guys were VERY disappointed. The company I work for is still not profitable and my manager expressed his disappointment to be the messenger. He acknowledged that he knows how much we have worked (Overtime) on projects so he is doing all he can. I believe him. I’m happy to have gotten the raise. After talking with a few people, while it may be less than desired, is actually fair and in line with reality. So. Yaaaaaaeeeah!
In a back and forth game in New York he Sabres win 5-4 advancing to play the Sens in the third round of the playoffs. WOO!
I think my heart rate is back down to normal now…. the ending to the Sabres/Rangers game 5 was intense. Sabres scoring with 7 seconds left in the 3rd then getting a powerplay goal by Max in OT to take a 3-2 series lead. It will be tough to win game six in New York but the Sabres will hopefully ride this big emotional win.
B. is away. She went up to Killaloe to see her grandmother. She was having some heart complications and things weren’t sounding too good. Today she is apparently better and quite receptive to her numerous guests. I hope all goes well for her.
