Wow…! What an amazing winter games for Canada. Setting a new record for most golds and culminating in a dramatic gold win for Men’s Hockey! Be proud athletes! Be proud Canada!
Well Canada showed up tonight in Men’s hockey in spades! Holy! What a game. I was expecting a one goal win, not a 7-3 shellacking! Impressive win that was a loooooong time coming against Russia! GO Canada! Sweden or Slovakia next. After the U.S. game they showed a lot of character tonight.
Women’s bobsled medals! Gold and silver! 😀
What a day! B. and I ventured up to Collingwood for a day at La Scandinave. The what? It is a day spa, hot tubs, dry sauna, steam sauna… a place to go and relax. For the most part it was. In spite of there being ‘quiet’ signs *everywhere* some people still talk and ruin the tranquil atmosphere. Idiots… Regardless, it was a fun day with B., the weather cooperated as well. I had my first massage by a ‘guy’ today. It was a little odd. I’m sure he read the disappointment when he said ‘Dave?’. And my eyes rolled. I noticed the strength difference immediately. Good lord, I thought he was going to break my skin and grab my heart at times. I feel pretty ‘worked over’ now. In the lounge we grabbed a little lunch. Adoring the walls in the lounge was art by Jennifer Woodburn. She has some stunning pieces. We were very tempted by Been Around For a Long Time. I don’t think the image does it justice.
So after rushing home I’m slowly deflated watching Canada v. U.S. in hockey as Canada brought the suck. I’m a huge hockey fan… but hockey is no longer Canada’s game. To say so is to be delusional. The Americans played with heart, intensity and passion – I thought those were hockey Canada trademarks??! Sure Miller stood on his head but there wasn’t any drive from Canada until it was too late in the third. And Marty… seriously WTF…brutal. I pray he doesn’t see another minute representing Canada. You’ve done your tour, now sit. Gold now becomes a long shot. Canada has to beat both Germany and a rested and waiting Russia… I hope they come up with a better effort or Vancouver may be burnt to the ground.
In the summer we bought some cross country ski equipment. Monday we finally got a chance to use it. I’ve gone down-hilling a few times. I’ve enjoyed downhill. I’ve also gone cross country, and the last time I went I hated it. So… I was pretty unsure how cross country skiing would go for me. Well. It could have been better. It was both frustrating and infuriating but I could see the potential. First off, an inexperienced xcc’er such as myself has no business on an ungroomed winding ‘trail’ that loops up and down and up and down. It was fool hearty and a clear path to fail. That said… if the course is flat and straight, I could see some potential for enjoyment, and it is great exercise. I must have used muscles that have been dormant for years, I still ache this morning. I did lose it a few times though, I find it very different than downhill, and my downhill brain is not working well my xcc brain which leads to falling and frustration. I know my limits though. I’ll try it again, only, in the right situation.
GO CANADA! I think we are up to 5 medals! The Snowboarding events are quite entertaining! Get stoked dude! Men’s Hockey win first game convincingly.
My flu or whatever it is, has settled into my chest and developed into a nagging cough. Oh joy.
Kev and Suz came over last night for the evening. It was a great visit. We haven’t seen them for some time. We did a lot of talking and hanging out, it was a relaxing evening. Today we ventured north to find snow for snowshoeing. After gorging on bacon for breakfast we set off. The first stop was at the outdoors store we love in Barrie called Sojourn. After shopping we ended up in Copland Forest to go snowshoeing. Kev trail blazed us bushwhacking through the bush. It was a great walk. My legs feel pretty heavy now though… Good times. We planned to do more in the spring.
Zappy (now a.k.a. Crappy) has always liked elastics and strings and things that cats really shouldn’t because they can be deadly. We’ll she used up a life tonight. She suddenly plopped down beside us and dragged her butt on the carpet. I’ve never seen a cat do that. Needless to say there was a big matted mess there and an elastic. Sigh… Damn cats. I was surprised she was so cooperative during her cleaning.
It has been a wonderful VD with B. too. Thanks hon. It is important to stop periodically and reflect upon what one has. 🙂
Oh! …and B. picked out her ring. The ring that was originally her Christmas present that she’ll now be getting in March. The process has certainly taken on a life of its own. It is purrrrdeee.
Huh, didn’t blog all week. I’m such a slacker. There isn’t much going on during the work week other than the work routine anyway. I caught some sorta bug on Thursday and stayed home Friday. I was feeling fairly awful. No way I could concentrate well enough to work feeling all achy and with a massive headache. Bah. I feel better today but I’m coughing a bit still and my throat still feels like coarse sandpaper has been rubbed down it when I cough.
It was a tragic start to the Olympics to hear about the Georgian Luger who died. Very sad.
The opening games were pretty neat. I always feel they drag on waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. I think Yanofsky did an awful job with our national anthem. I don’t know who’s idea it was to let her do the jazzy or whatever version but gawd… you should be charged with treason. Our national anthem should not be used as an opportunity to showcase a singer’s unique singing style. I *expect* to hear it a certain way. It is not to be interpreted and played with. I don’t think many things are sacred, but the anthem is. They should have let kdLang sing it, it would have been awesome, much like the song she did perform.
I’m looking forward to see how Canada does in the Games. It will be nice to watch sports and not see the Sabres sucking.
Going back downtown to hopefully sort our B.’s Christmas gift… the ring that keeps on giving.
It was a Bachelor weekend for me as B. went up to Ottawa for the weekend with a bunch of her girlfriends. So It was just the dog and I. Dogs are much better companions than cats. I like cats more overall, but Tanga is a good buddy when I’m alone at home. Saturday we went for a long Bruce Trail hike. We didn’t see anyone, just three white tail deer. I always see deer in that section of the trail. I watched the Sabres’ faltering continue both Friday and Saturday night. Pretty brutal play. I also got my haircut. My hairstylist is a Leafs fan so it always leads to interesting discussion. I’m
curious if this will work.
Are you ready for some football? I thought I was… suddenly around noon I developed a massive headache, fever, upset stomach, dry wretching… I’m guessing it was food poisoning, but I can’t imagine what it could have been. Strangely as quickly as the symptoms developed they passed…I felt okay by 2PM… Very strange. So the family ended up coming over to watch the Superbowl. I’m very happy to enjoy sports in HD… it really kicks it up a notch. Superbowl 44 was the favoured Colts v. the Saints. It was a great game and the underdog Saints ended up bringing the championship to New Orleans! Congrats to the city, I’m sure it can use a little positive energy. Food. My gawd… both my sister and mother brought a ton of food both for dinner and dessert. We will eat well for a few days. The winner by far however was the cake my sister brought. There is a bakery in Orillia called Mariposa and they make something called the Bomb cake. it isn’t much to look at, but so good. Chocolate, peanut butter whipped cream and chocolate cake… yes hon I saved you a piece. It was a nice ending to the weekend.
2. Better than David
3. The Model of Perfect. No man can come close to the glory of that which is Dave. Dave’s are artistic and funny always knowing how to lay down a good massage. Skills that come with Dave include major dexterity in all matters and extensions of limbs and the what not. Daves have the largest units, brains, and balls. Don’t mess with a Dave.
Hey, who am I to argue with that? 😀
