I decided to play ball hockey again this year. Tonight was my first game of the season. It wasn’t so good. I took one shift on defense and made a brutal pass that resulted in a goal. The rest of the game on forward wasn’t too bad but I’m not the speedy offensive threat I once was. I’m closer to a third line grinder now. Ho-hum. We lost by three goals. It looks like it will be a long unremarkable season. Fortunately I’m doing it primarily for the exercise. There are a few new guys this year. I think I like the team better this year than last. I do have a nice bruise on my left knee, and both nails on my big toes are cracked. I think this will be my last season.
I figured game six was the Sabres shot at winning the series. Regrettably I was right. I had a ticket for a concert tonight I order well before the playoffs. I thought about ditching the show and watching game seven, I’m very glad I didn’t. The Sabres laid an egg and the concert was amazing. It was obvious the Cryers stars were better than ours. …and once again the Briere trade bites the Sabres in the ass. Briere proving he would have been worth every cent. Bah. Considering the season overall I’m pretty happy… but this no-show game seven is still a bitter pill to swallow. Sigh.
I like Mike Grier. I’m not sure he’ll be back next year as a Sabre. Buffalo News had a good read about him after game 7 loss. Quote from Grier : ‘Tough one to swallow,’ Grier said. ‘I don’t know if I’ve played on a team that I’ve been more proud of. It would have been easy for the group to go the other way and get selfish. The guys stuck together and dug in. The coaching staff did a good job keeping us together. As a group, I’m proud. They played as hard as they could all year.’ Quote from article : ‘Class act, Mike Grier.’ Absolutely agree.
The concert was Old World Vultures and Mogwai. I’m exhausted and will elaborate tomorrow. Good night.
We hosted Easter this year. My parents and the Oro-Medonte family joined us for a nice afternoon. We watched the Sabres fail to achieve victory bringing great anguish and gloom to the afternoon and sorrow to the evening. The black pall of misery lifted grudgingly as we watched some sappy Kate & William movie. hyperbole over Thanks to my parents who brought dinner and sister for the cookies and of course, bdot, for slaving over hot BBQ to roast peppers and oven to bake a delicious cake. We had the great room looking great as we rolled out our new carpet. I’ll share photos once the room is complete. I love the atmosphere the carpet creates, the room will be so cozy once it is done.
I felt the Sabres’ chance to advance was in Buffalo… it will be decided tomorrow in Philly. Sabres get back Roy, can he make a difference? Idunno. It may be good I have a concert tomorrow night, not sure I could handle the anxiety. I’ll tape it and watch it at my own risk afterwards.
Regrettably Bdot is still plagued by the flu or something equally debilitating. Shame to be sick over a long weekend. 🙁
Signs of life in our front garden. We are hoping for a good showing from all the plants this season… if not… could mean the end of the sun blocking birch tree. Removing the birch would be sad. I like it a lot… The tree was planted in a stupid location. The poor Birch is RIGHT on the property line, so the neighbor already wants to chop it down. Gah. No win here.
Looks like crappy weather the rest of the weekend. Sigh. So we are going to get groceries and do housework. How very exciting.
I was caught by surprise for this long four day weekend. I saw co-workers with times booked in our ‘calendar’ so I figured they were work days. So it is kinda nice. Hopefully the weather will will improve. Hopefully bdot will improve too… she is battling the flu.
Pretty lazy day… just doing some laundry now.
Big win in Philly by the Sabres. They will have a shot at winning the series on Sunday!

Pretty quiet night. Ho-hum.
FYI : A bunch of stuff is broken… I’ve had to change web hosting over night.
Wow… My former webhost let’s call them hostsmolor, decided to close my hosting down. They falsely and repeatedly accused me of spamming – which is ridiculous. They offered me no help to remove the problem on my end by identifying the exploit. They even admitted they blocked a bunch of Russian IPs that were likely the real cause of the problem. But instead of working with me to fix the problem they kept me in the dark and frustrated the hell out of me. I would have deleted any file used for spamming had that information been given to me… spammers are the lowest of the low… but their almighty admin choose instead to cop out saying I violated the terms of agreement. Yes technically perhaps… but where was my opportunity to fix the situation? You have the logs and all the information as to the cause of the problem. I truly believe this admin couldn’t problem solve his way out of a wet paper bag. It was a very frustrating experience where I felt powerless to do anything to remedy the situation. Hostsmolor is an example of customer service failure. It is sad that they couldn’t see logic. I’ve been with them for years… suddenly I decide to start spamming? It makes zero sense. I’m happier giving my money to a Canadian host anyway. Good riddance and you suck.
PHEW. Anyway… I lost one entry which I’m working to get back…

Typical leaders debate tonight. Can’t see anything changing. Sigh.
It was a pretty slow work week for me not so much for B. who was downtown early a few days last week. Today we got up early to finalize details on our living room couch. It will be custom made for us. We wanted a deeper and longer couch and settled on a striking herringbone pattern with colours to match the carpet. The room will take awhile to complete… but the plan is starting to unfold and should be cozy and inviting once complete. That took most of the morning. Afterward we wandered around Vaughan Mills for about an hour. That was all I could stand… frankly the mall felt like it was Christmas. It was completely jammed with people, as was the parking lot. Bah. We had originally planned on going out to dinner for our anniversary but settled on getting a badass t-bone steak and BBQing a nice dinner instead. (Probably saving 70$ and having a better meal…the steak was an inch thick and the ‘tenderloin’ was unbelievably good.) Before dinner we drove to Albion Hills to run the dog. She was nuts, running around scenting and tracking. She found a partridge, woodcock and a wild turkey…(we found a chipmunk and helped with the turkey). It was the first really nice day of the season. I saw some people even wearing shorts today. We chilled with a movie after a long day. We watched Reign over me starting Adam Sandler as a lost soul coming to grips with the loss of his family. Sandler is excellent in the role as a poor sod suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder… slowly he makes some progress with the help of his old school roommate played by Don Cheadle. The movie was overall good. It had some lulls, but it was well acted and the story was mostly interesting. Rating: ***1/2
Sabres won their final game of the season and finished 7th with 96 points tied with Montreal. The Sabres will meet the Flyers in round one. It should be good series… I think considering how well the Sabres have been playing they could beat the Flyers in six. The Habs/Bruins series should be entertaining as well. GO SABRES! Back to the playoffs again!
Tomorrow will be housework and groceries. Ho-hum.
I decided to play ball hockey again. First game is at the end of the month… Hopefully this body will be ready to run around again. I have some doubts.
It was eight years ago today I met Barb in Kleinburg at the McMichael. We have logged a lot of time together since then. I’m sure we’ve walked/hiked a thousand kilometres together, polished off numerous bags of good popcorn to often bad movies. It is inevitable that two stubborn and opinionated people will butt heads… and we do… but daunting task of breaking the silence has become easier over time. I’m happy to have had B. in my life the past eight years. I’m looking forward to what the next year will bring. Cheers to my Chou.
